Who are we?
Sense Team Sports was founded in 2015 by Australian Olympian Jesse Parahi & Paediatric Occupational Therapist Carlien Parahi. The program aims to support neurodiverse children and children with developmental delays and disabilities to successfully engage in team sport.
What Do We Do:
Occupational Therapists team up with local sport clubs and players to run programs to build the sensory, emotional, physical and group skills of the individual whilst also building the capacity of the community to facilitate inclusion within their organisations.
Sense Team Sports uses sport as a therapy tool. We use the unique sensory and social benefits of sport as our avenue to reach therapy goals while the kids learn the core skills of teamwork. Our programs are always delivered by Occupational Therapists which allows us to adapt and modify sessions for maximum therapeutic benefit. We love seeing our participants thrive on and off the sporting field!
"Rugby is a beautiful game, and many aspects of our sport seem to align with Carlien's therapy approach: you're on all fours and wrestling, activating your inner core, which helps settle the nervous system, and there's plenty of running. It's a great way to get kids the sensory input they often crave in a positive way."
